The raised relief holds the old city on both banks of the Arno: the narrow streets around the Duomo to the north, and to the south the Oltrarno climbing past the Boboli Gardens and up the winding road to Piazzale Michelangelo. Around it, the printed map carries the streets out past the Fortezza da Basso and the ring of avenues that replaced the city walls.

From the Arno to the hilltops south of the river, the map climbs about 150 meters in twelve layers of color. Florence is drawn with its smaller streets too, so the old center keeps its close weave. Every contour, street and riverbank comes from open map data, simplified so the city reads from across a room; the relief is printed on our own printer, mounted on a card with the city's name and coordinates, and framed in oak or black, ready to hang.
